Lettuce AUONA

Reliable Yields Without Surprises

When working with Romaine lettuce, the biggest risk is internal tip burn (necrosis), which often appears at the worst possible moment—just as the heads are ready for harvest. By choosing Auvona from Rijk Zwaan, you effectively insure yourself against such losses. Dutch breeding shows its pragmatic side here: the plant is predictable in its development, which is critical for scheduling commercial production.

Field Performance

• Head Formation: The variety exhibits strong growth, forming a dense but neat, medium-sized rosette. For the operator, this means easier harvesting and standardized packaging, resulting in a uniform and marketable product.
• Dark Green Color: The leaves have a deep, rich color that persists long after harvest. In logistics, this is a key factor, as the produce retains its fresh appearance on the shelf much longer.
• Stress Resistance: The main advantage of Auvona is its genetic resistance to internal necrosis. Even under temperature or humidity fluctuations that would cause rot in other varieties, this crop remains clean inside.

For an agronomist, Auvona represents reliability. Its medium maturity cycle allows it to fit seamlessly into any crop rotation plan. The plant requires no special gimmicks: standard agronomic practices, balanced nutrition, and consistent irrigation ensure a stable yield of high-quality produce without extra costs for grading or discarding spoiled heads.
