Lettuce EXCISE

Technological Potential of Ekskiz Lettuce

French breeding from Vilmorin-Mikado has focused on creating a hybrid that minimizes production losses. As a 'butterhead' type, Ekskiz offers a tender leaf structure rich in sugars and balanced cell sap, requiring precise humidity management to prevent tissue cracking. This is a deliberate design choice that prioritizes product quality for the retail market.

Defense Mechanisms and Morphology

The primary advantage of Ekskiz is its genetic resistance to Downy Mildew (Bremia lactucae). For commercial operations, this is a critical efficiency factor: inherent resistance reduces the need for frequent fungicide applications, lowering overall production costs and simplifying phytosanitary compliance. The light green color of the leaves confirms active photosynthesis even under moderate light, ensuring consistent performance in greenhouse conditions.

• Head Formation: The medium-sized head provides optimal market density, ensuring the product survives transport without bruising or structural failure.
• Rosette Architecture: A compact design allows for proper airflow through the plant, significantly reducing the risk of rot in the lower foliage.
• Biological Efficiency: Its hybrid nature guarantees high uniformity, meaning the entire crop reaches maturity simultaneously, streamlining harvesting labor and scheduling.

By opting for Ekskiz, growers gain predictable outcomes: the dense structure of the butterhead leaf extends shelf life, and the risk of loss due to fungal pressure is mitigated at the DNA level.
