Lettuce AMICA

The Dutch standard for butterhead lettuce

Amica by Enza Limited is the choice of professionals focused on predictable results in butterhead lettuce production. Developed by the breeders at Enza Zaden Beheer B.V., this hybrid has built a reputation as a reliable tool for yielding dense, high-quality heads that enjoy consistent demand from major retailers.

Agrotechnical features

This variety belongs to the butterhead type, which defines its core value: a delicate yet firm leaf texture with a characteristic oily sheen. The hybrid consistently produces medium-weight heads, making it an ideal format for both retail and the HoReCa sector. The uniformity of the crop simplifies post-harvest handling and minimizes packaging waste.

Protection and resistance

A key advantage of Amica is its genetic resistance to Downy Mildew (Bremia lactucae). In temperate climates and greenhouse conditions, where pathogens can spread rapidly, such resistance is a critical factor for profitability. This hybrid allows for a reduction in fungicide applications, which not only lowers production costs but also contributes to a cleaner, more sustainable harvest.

Market position

Within the Enza Limited portfolio, this lettuce serves as a reliable workhorse. It does not demand extreme growing conditions, maintaining performance stability even when environmental temperatures fluctuate. For agricultural enterprises, Amica is a strategic choice to mitigate risks and ensure a product that consistently meets modern butterhead quality standards.
