Lettuce CONKIBUS

Technological features of Conkibus leaf lettuce

Rijk Zwaan's breeding program in the leaf lettuce segment focuses on the critical balance between vegetative vigor and phytosanitary safety. Conkibus is a hybrid engineered for intensive production in both open-field and greenhouse environments, where yield consistency across fluctuating weather patterns is essential.

Phytopathological profile and resistance

The core genetic engineering solution in the Conkibus profile is its comprehensive resistance to lettuce downy mildew (Bremia lactucae). In modern greenhouse or field conditions, where the infectious pressure of this pathogen is exceptionally high, this hybrid demonstrates a significant reduction in the necessity for fungicide applications. This is not merely a saving on crop protection products; it is a primary factor in delivering high-quality commercial produce that meets strict environmental standards.

Morphology and commercial characteristics

• Plant type: Leaf lettuce. Adapted to form a dense yet easy-to-harvest rosette. The leaves possess a distinct texture, allowing them to maintain turgor and an attractive appearance post-harvest and during transport.
• Color spectrum: A deep, vibrant green that remains stable under varying light conditions, ensuring consistent marketability during spring and autumn cycles.
• Rosette mass: The average weight allows producers to optimize planting density based on operational requirements, ensuring an ideal yield per square meter.

The utilization of Rijk Zwaan's genetic material in this hybrid ensures high crop uniformity. For the producer, this translates to synchronized maturity: the entire batch reaches market readiness simultaneously, significantly streamlining harvesting operations and minimizing logistical costs during shipment preparation.
