Lettuce Yucatan

A Benchmark for Early-Season Red Lettuce

The «Yucatan» lettuce variety represents a significant step in modern breeding, focusing on high-intensity production and superior market aesthetics. Developed by Russian breeder Dmitry Sergeyevich Gladkov, this variety has established itself as a reliable choice for growers who demand consistent, deep-red pigmentation and uniform plant growth in both greenhouse and open-field environments.

Key Agronomic Strengths

The primary appeal of Yucatan lies in its combination of rapid maturity and essential plant health protections. In today’s competitive vegetable market, where disease pressure can compromise yields, the variety’s specific resistance to Downy Mildew (Bremia lactucae) provides growers with a critical buffer against crop loss.

• Plant Architecture: Yucatan produces a dense, medium-weight rosette, making it highly efficient for standard portion packing and direct retail sale.
• Aesthetic Quality: The intense red coloring is highly stable throughout the vegetative period, offering the vibrant visual appeal required for premium mixed salad packs and culinary applications.
• Maturity Schedule: The early ripening timeline allows for high-turnover cropping, making it an ideal candidate for continuous harvesting strategies.

Yucatan’s reputation is built on reliability. For commercial producers, the consistency in head mass is a decisive advantage when fulfilling supply contracts that demand strict sizing standards. By minimizing variability, this variety serves as a robust tool for both small-scale market gardeners and large-scale agricultural operations focused on high-quality fresh produce.
