Smooth brome Katrina

Technical Profile of 'Katrina' Fescue

Developed by the Kyiv State Agricultural Experimental Station of the National Center for Agrarian Science, the 'Katrina' variety represents a specialized solution for intensive leafy crop production. Designed specifically for the Ukrainian climate, this variety offers a reliable vegetative cycle for professional growers.

Morphological Features and Agronomic Value

• Leafy Architecture: The plant structure is optimized for the formation of a leaf rosette, making it highly efficient for mechanized harvesting. The growth habit minimizes lateral branching, which simplifies processing and increases the total marketable yield.
• End-Use: Classified as a salad-grade variety, 'Katrina' prioritizes leaf texture and uniformity, essential requirements for the fresh produce market and salad mix production.
• Genetic Stability: The breeder's focus on stability ensures a predictable response to agricultural inputs. This allows agronomists to effectively schedule harvest windows with high precision, maximizing logistics efficiency.

The primary practical advantage of 'Katrina' lies in its high specific productivity per square meter. By utilizing domestically bred seed material, growers can reduce reliance on imported supplies while ensuring robust performance under moderate continental climate conditions. The variety’s selection process emphasizes resilience against environmental stress factors, which is critical for consistent production throughout the growing season.
