Smooth brome Sigita

Selection Profile and Genetic Heritage

The 'Sigita' brome grass variety is the outcome of extensive breeding programs conducted by the Lithuanian Research Centre for Agriculture and Forestry (LAMMC). Developed under the guidance of breeder J. Kanapeckas, this variety was engineered to thrive in the climatic conditions of Northern Europe and the Baltic region. UAB Dotnuva Baltic currently holds the rights to the distribution and professional support of this genetic material.

Technical Specifications of the Leafy Type

Distinguished from conventional forage varieties, 'Sigita' is classified as a leafy type. The core technical advantage lies in its unique morphological structure: a high leaf-to-stem ratio and robust tillering capacity. This structural optimization ensures that the biomass produced is characterized by soft, succulent tissue, making it highly suitable for leaf salads and premium green fodder applications.

• Regeneration Rate: High regrowth intensity following mowing, facilitating multiple harvests within a single growing season.
• Tissue Quality: Optimized fiber composition ensures a tender leaf texture, which is a critical standard for culinary and high-quality forage usage.
• Ecological Plasticity: The variety exhibits significant resilience to temperature fluctuations during the early spring and autumn periods, ensuring consistent yield performance.

The engineering approach behind 'Sigita' focused on mitigating the natural stiffness of brome grass, resulting in a variety that balances the inherent durability of the species with the tender quality required for specialized cultivation. By choosing 'Sigita', growers benefit from a highly adaptable solution that addresses the demand for consistent, high-quality biomass production in professional agricultural settings.
