Smooth brome POMOR

Working with 'Pomor' Brome Grass

When selecting perennial grasses for forage production, the operator's focus is on three factors: regrowth rate after mowing, resistance to pathogens, and ease of harvest. The 'Pomor' variety, developed by the A.G. Lorch Federal Research Center for Potato, proves to be a predictable "workhorse" for producing high-quality haylage.

Operation and Resistance

In the field, 'Pomor' demonstrates high vitality. Unlike less resilient varieties, this brome grass requires minimal to no fungicide treatments against helminthosporiosis and brown rust. For an agronomist, this translates to a predictable work schedule and the elimination of unplanned expenses for crop protection chemicals. The variety endures winter conditions robustly, which is critical for long-term pasture management.

Yield and Application

The primary purpose is to form a high-quality forage base. The crop is low-maintenance and adapts easily to various soil types, simplifying field maintenance logistics. Operating experience shows that 'Pomor' ensures consistent green mass growth, which retains the necessary nutritional value for livestock after drying.

• Biological Defense: Natural resistance to major cereal fungal diseases.
• Maintenance: Rapid regeneration after mowing allows for multiple harvest cycles per season.
• Resource: Long-term durability of the stand on a single field without degradation.

If your goal is a stable forage production cycle with minimal risk of losses due to disease, this variety offers an optimal balance between labor input and marketable output.
