Medicago sativa VITALINA® is a specialized alfalfa variety intended for agricultural use as a forage crop. It is widely used for feeding livestock, providing an important protein source, and is also used to improve soil fertility due to its ability to enrich it with nitrogen. The plant forms a bush 50 to 150 cm high with a powerful taproot system reaching 2-3 meters in length. Leaves are trifoliate, and flowers are gathered in racemes, primarily blue-lilac in color. Seeds are small, which facilitates sowing and cultivation of the crop.
VITALINA® alfalfa has high forage qualities: 1 centner of hay contains about 48 feed units and 10.3 kg of digestible protein, making its nutritive value comparable to half a kilogram of oats for every kilogram of hay. Thanks to these characteristics, alfalfa is widely used as green feed, hay, silage, and hay flour, providing diverse application methods in animal husbandry.
In addition to its agricultural significance, alfalfa is known for its beneficial properties in medicine and folk practice. It contains B group vitamins, potassium, calcium, chlorophyll, vitamin E, saponins, and flavonoids, which contribute to blood and vessel purification, wound healing, cholesterol reduction, and prevention of atherosclerosis. Alfalfa also supports immunity and cardiovascular system health, and its preparations are used to treat stomach, intestinal, joint, tooth, and gum diseases.
