Ateya Bromegrass: The Foundation for Long-Term Pastures

The «Ateya» bromegrass variety, developed by IXSP Naan, is a specialized forage solution designed for professional agricultural operations. It serves as a reliable tool for building high-yield forage systems that require minimal annual maintenance and offer long-term productivity.

Practical Applications on the Farm

Agricultural managers utilize this variety to address several core production challenges:

• Establishing Long-Term Hayfields: Ateya is prized for its persistence. Once established, it maintains high biomass yields for 5–7 years, reducing the frequency and cost of pasture renovation.
• Intensive Grazing Systems: The variety exhibits excellent tolerance to trampling. This makes it an ideal choice for rotational grazing setups, where quick regrowth after livestock removal is critical for farm efficiency.
• High-Quality Feed Production: Due to its favorable leaf-to-stem ratio, Ateya is highly palatable. Whether grazed directly or harvested for hay, it provides livestock with a dense nutritional profile.

Ateya stands out for its resilience under Ukrainian climatic conditions. It is specifically bred to withstand harsh winters and summer heat stress, ensuring that the farm retains its forage supply even when other grasses go dormant. This serves as a vital safeguard against seasonal feed shortages.

Agrotechnical Considerations

When incorporating Ateya into a cropping plan, it is essential to note that it establishes slowly during the first year of life. Proper weed management during the seedling stage is critical. Once the root system is fully established, the variety creates a dense, aggressive sod that naturally suppresses weeds and prevents soil erosion. It is the perfect candidate for improving low-productivity fields or sloping lands, transforming them into stable, profitable agricultural assets.
