Flagship is a dwarf variety of Japanese quince (Cydonia japonica) from the Chaenomeles genus, characterized by its compact growth and decorative appeal. The plant does not exceed 40 cm in height and reaches approximately 100 cm in width, making it ideal for containers, small garden compositions, and greenhouses. The fruits of this variety are large, lemon-yellow, non-shedding, with dense pulp of a sour-sweet taste and a pleasant aroma.
The flowering of Flagship is abundant and prolonged: flowers gather in small inflorescences of 3–4 pieces, colored with red buds and non-fading petals. The flower scent is weak but present, adding to the plant's decorative value. Fruits appear after several years of growth – usually at an age of 3 to 4 years, and the plant lives for a long time.
Chaenomeles is a shrub of the rose family, native to China, Korea, and Japan. Unlike ordinary quince, chaenomeles do not bear large fruits, but their small berries have a yellow or greenish tint and dense sour-sweet pulp. Flagship retains all these characteristics while remaining a compact and easy-to-care-for plant suitable for decorative use in gardens and orchards.
