The vegetable pea variety "Altaian Emerald" is a mid-early or mid-season variety with a vegetative period from germination to technical maturity of about 52-56 days. The plant is compact, semi-bushy, and grows from 35 to 50 cm tall. The pods are weakly curved, 7-10 cm long and 1.3-1.7 cm wide, with a pointed tip. Green peas are distinguished by their high sugar content (from 5.5% to 7.5%) and protein, which ensures excellent taste qualities when eaten fresh, as well as after freezing and canning.
The variety is characterized by high yield—up to 1.4 kg per square meter, with green pea output constituting about 50%. "Altaian Emerald" is a cold-hardy and moisture-loving crop, capable of germinating at temperatures from 2 to 6°C and withstanding short-term frosts down to -6°C. For successful cultivation, it is recommended to plant seedlings in well-lit areas with fertile loamy and medium loam soils with a neutral or slightly acidic reaction. Good aeration and sufficient soil moisture throughout the vegetative period are important.
Seeds are sown in the open ground in early May at a depth of 3-5 cm, depending on the soil type, with a sowing rate of 25-30 g per square meter and a planting scheme of 15x45 cm. Plants can be grown without support, but if necessary, trellises are recommended for support. To improve crop quality, it is useful to apply foliar fertilizers containing boron and molybdenum, as well as use growth and development stimulants that contribute to faster germination, plant health, and improved fruit set. The variety also has a positive effect on soil structure and is a good predecessor for most crops, except for legume family representatives.
