Description
Golden currant of the Altargana variety is a vigorous, upright bush with densely located conical buds and three-lobed leaves, which are distinguished by a leathery dense structure and a slightly glossy surface. Medium-thick, straight canes with a light brown tint, while leaves have blunt, short teeth and deep notches between the lobes. Fruit clusters are of medium size, with berries of medium mass from 0.8 to 1.8 grams, round in shape and very dark blue-black in color with a glossy skin of medium thickness.
Berries of the Altargana variety have a sour-sweet delicate taste with a pronounced aroma and contain about 9.6-9.8% sugars, 1.68-1.7% acids, and a high amount of vitamin C — from 119 to 128 mg%. The tasting score of fresh berries is 4.5 points, which indicates the high quality of the fruits. Berries have a dense structure and a long persistent calyx, which is easily removed during processing.
The variety is characterized by high winter hardiness and resistance to diseases and pests, which makes it reliable for growing in various climatic conditions of Russia. Drought and heat resistance in Altargana are at a medium level. Fruiting begins in the 1st-2nd year after planting, while the average yield reaches 94 centners per hectare, which allows using this variety both for fresh consumption and for processing.
