Maize Elf 197 MV

Corn Elf 197 MV is an early-maturing hybrid of grain corn, developed by the Institute of Plant Physiology and Genetics of NAS and Cherkasy DSDDC of NNC "IZ NAAN". Registered in the Ukrainian Plant Variety Register since 2020 and recommended for cultivation in the Polissia and Forest-Steppe zones. The hybrid's vegetation period ranges from 105 to 111 days depending on the region, allowing its use for early planting and stable yields.

Plants reach a height of 220-250 cm, with large conical-cylindrical ears positioned at a height of 70-80 cm. The ears are well-covered with husks and contain 14-16 rows of yellow, red-stalked dent kernels. The 1000-kernel weight is 280-300 g, and the milling yield reaches 77-82%. The starch content in the grain is 72.3%, and protein content is 9.3%. The hybrid exhibits high resistance to lodging, breakage, drought, and cold, as well as to diseases such as bubble and aerial smut, root rots, fusarium, and helminthosporiosis. Additionally, it shows good tolerance to corn borer.

Elf 197 MV is characterized by high ecological plasticity and stable yield under various climatic conditions. The yield at standard moisture content of 14% is 5.65 t/ha in the Steppe, 8.78 t/ha in the Forest-Steppe, and 7.26 t/ha in the Polissia, with individual test stations recording yields up to 13.9 t/ha. The ear morphology features rapid moisture release, facilitating harvesting and grain storage. The hybrid responds well to mineral fertilizer application, enabling increased productivity and quality of the harvest.
