Kyivskyi 197 — this is an early-maturing hybrid of common corn, registered in the Register of Plant Varieties of Ukraine since 2020. It is characterized by a vegetation period from emergence to full maturity, which is 105 days in the Steppe zone, 111 days in the Forest-Steppe, and 106 days in the Polissia. Plants reach a height of 220-250 cm, and ears of conical-cylindrical shape are located at a height of 70-80 cm. Ears are large, weighing 280-290 g, completely covered with husks, with 14-16 rows of yellow, tooth-like kernels. The 1000-kernel weight is 280-300 g, and the grain yield at threshing is 77-82%. The starch content in the grain reaches 72.3%, protein — 9.3%. The hybrid Kyivskyi 197 is characterized by high resistance to lodging, breakage, drought, and cold. It also has resistance to infection by powdery mildew and downy mildew, root rot, fusarium, and helminthosporosis, as well as tolerance to corn borer. This grain-oriented hybrid demonstrates broad ecological plasticity, ensuring stable high yields in different climatic zones of Ukraine, especially in the Steppe, Forest-Steppe, and Polissia. It responds well to the application of mineral fertilizers and is suitable for early sowing. The yield of Kyivskyi 197 at standard moisture content of 14% is 5.65 t/ha in the Steppe, 8.78 t/ha in the Forest-Steppe, and 7.26 t/ha in the Polissia. On some variety trial stations, yields up to 13.9 t/ha were obtained. Morphological features and ear structure contribute to rapid grain moisture loss. This hybrid is a reliable choice for farmers seeking productive, resistant, and high-quality corn varieties.
