DN Hortitsia is a mid-early hybrid sugar corn with FAO 240, developed by Ukrainian breeding and registered in the State Register of Plant Varieties of Ukraine in 2016. This hybrid is characterized by high yield potential reaching 12–13.5 tons per hectare, as well as low grain moisture at harvest, which simplifies harvesting and storage. Plants reach a height of 230–240 cm, and the grain has a toothed shape and light yellow-orange color, with a 1000-grain weight ranging from 260–270 grams and row numbers of 14–16.
The DN Hortitsia hybrid is intended for grain production in the Steppe, Forest-Steppe, and Polissia climatic zones of Ukraine. It features high cold resistance and intensive water release, which contributes to stable yield formation under proper agronomic conditions. However, this hybrid poorly tolerates prolonged delays and high air temperatures, especially in the late stages of maturity, so it is not recommended for harvest during winter.
In addition, DN Hortitsia exhibits resistance to lodging and several diseases, enhancing cultivation reliability and grain quality. These features make it an attractive choice for farmers aiming to achieve high and stable yields of sugar corn under Ukrainian climate conditions.
