DMC Orpheus

DMC Orpheus is a simple hybrid of sweet corn developed by the Ukrainian company MAIS and registered in the State Register of Varieties in 2020. It belongs to the mid-early maturity group with a vegetation period ranging from 108 to 124 days depending on the climatic conditions of the region. The hybrid is intended for cultivation in steppe, forest-steppe, and Polissia zones, making it a versatile solution for various agroclimatic conditions. The yield potential ranges from 115 to 151 centners per hectare, confirming its high productivity under both intensive and extensive cultivation technologies.

One of the key features of DMC Orpheus is its high initial growth energy and excellent seedling emergence, ensuring uniform and rapid plant development. Plants quickly transition from seedling to mature stage, and at late vegetation stages, the hybrid demonstrates high water shedding rate and a pronounced Stay green effect, which contributes to maintaining green mass and improving grain quality. Average plant height reaches 270 cm, and ears have a cylindrical shape with 14–16 rows of kernels, ensuring good density and quality of the harvest.

The hybrid exhibits high resistance to adverse factors: heat, drought, lodging, as well as major corn diseases such as downy mildew, gray leaf spot, stalk rot, and gnomosporiosis. It is also tolerant to pests, including corn borer, and can withstand delayed planting up to 30 days without loss of quality. The recommended temperature for sowing initiation is 10–12ºC, and seeding density varies depending on the region, allowing for optimal agronomic practices tailored to specific growing conditions.
