DN Ksenia

DN Ksenia — a mid-season hybrid of sweet corn with FAO 290, developed by the Institute of Grain Crops of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine and registered in the state register in 2023. This hybrid is characterized by high yield potential and drought resistance, confirmed by results from 2024, when yields across all regions of Ukraine exceeded the average. Plants reach a height of 250–275 cm, with a vegetation period of 116–119 days. The ear is attached at a height of 85–95 cm and has a length of 22–24 cm, with a grain yield of 81.8–86% after milling. The hybrid exhibits high resistance to various stress factors and diseases. It shows good drought tolerance (7 points), high resistance to lodging (8–9 points), as well as resistance to diseases such as anthracnose (7–9 points), stalk rot (9 points), and Helminthosporium (9 points). Additionally, DN Ksenia demonstrates resistance to corn borer at 6–7 points and excellent herbicide tolerance. A wide stalk contributes to additional lodging resistance, and the hybrid also exhibits good cold tolerance. In terms of chemical composition, the grain contains 9.1–10.1% protein and 71.9–73.4% starch, making it attractive for various uses. Recommended growing zones include Steppe, Forest-Steppe, and Polesie, where average yields in 2024 were 8.17, 9.59, and 10.54 tons per hectare, respectively. The hybrid is produced via self-pollination, ensuring stability and quality of seed material.
