Maize Askania

A Reliable Choice for Popcorn Production

The Askania corn variety, developed by the Institute of Grain Crops of the NAAS (Ukraine), is a staple in the popcorn industry. Unlike modern intensive hybrids that demand rigorous management, Askania offers farmers field predictability and consistent performance.

Agronomic Advantages

• Crop Health: The variety exhibits strong genetic resistance to common and loose smut, which is essential for cultivation in unpredictable climates. Additionally, breeders highlight its increased resistance to the European corn borer.
• Specific Protection: A notable feature is its barrier against onion stem smut, making the variety convenient for crop rotations where such issues may arise.
• Efficiency: With a maturation period of 100–110 days, farmers can effectively plan their harvest to avoid late autumn rains, which is critical for maintaining the high grain quality required for popcorn processing.

Who Is This Variety For?

Askania is an ideal solution for operations focused on the processing industry. If your goal is to produce commercial grain for popcorn with high expansion rates, this variety will serve as a reliable workhorse for your business. It is forgiving of minor agronomic management oversights while delivering the consistent quality that raw material buyers demand.

It is important to note that Askania is a variety, not a hybrid. This allows for potential seed cost savings, but requires strict adherence to planting purity to maintain varietal characteristics over time.
