The hybrid maize DMS Tristan with FAO 270 is a mid-ripening, high-yielding variety developed by the breeding company MAIS for cultivation throughout Ukraine. It features high drought tolerance and adaptability to various climatic conditions, making it especially effective in steppe, forest-steppe, and Polissia regions. The vegetation period varies by region: in Polissia it is about 116 days, in the forest-steppe zone — 112 days, and in the steppe — 108 days. Yield potential reaches 16 tons per hectare in Polissia, 15.5 tons in the forest-steppe, and up to 14 tons in steppe areas at 14% grain moisture. Plants of the hybrid reach a height of approximately 245 cm, with ear attachment height of about 100 cm. The ear has a cylindrical shape with 14–18 rows of yellow-red kernels. One of the key features of DMS Tristan is the pronounced 'stay green' trait, which preserves green foliage in late maturation stages, facilitating better water and nutrient accumulation. This also promotes rapid moisture removal from the grain, reducing drying costs during harvest. The hybrid demonstrates high resistance to major maize diseases, including leaf blight and smut, as well as strong protection against pests such as the corn earworm. Additionally, it exhibits good cold tolerance, lodging resistance, and vigorous early vegetative growth. All these qualities make DMS Tristan a profitable and reliable choice for farms aiming for stable and efficient maize production under diverse climatic conditions in Ukraine.
