Description MARTUM
MARTUM is a variety of red clover (Trifolium pratense L.) included in the State Register of Breeding Achievements of the Russian Federation since 1999 and recommended for cultivation in the Central, Volga-Vyatka, Middle Volga, and Far East regions. The variety is bi-cropped and mid-early, with a period from spring regrowth to flowering of 50–78 days, which is 3–4 days earlier than the Dymkovsky variety. Seed maturation occurs after 102–116 days. Plants are characterized by high winter hardiness (95–99%), ensuring their successful overwintering in various climatic conditions. MARTUM bushes are upright and semi-decumbent, with plant height in the first cut reaching 51–76 cm and in the second cut 29–50 cm. Stems are weakly pubescent, nodes are light brown or sometimes green. Leaves are pubescent, green with a characteristic spot and waxy coating, soft to the touch. Inflorescences have an elongated-rounded shape with pink and red coloration. Seeds are ovoid, yellow-violet, mass of 1000 seeds is 1.8–2.1 g, while the percentage of hard seeds ranges from 5 to 20%. The average number of internodes on the plant varies from 6 to 8. The yield of the MARTUM variety in dry matter corresponds to the standard in the Central and Volga-Vyatka regions, while in the Far East region it exceeds the standard by 14.4 c/ha, reaching a maximum of 125 c/ha. The maximum seed collection is 8.04 c/ha. Crude protein content in dry matter reaches 19.25%, and fiber content is about 19.57%. The variety has average resistance to clover wilt, fusarium wilt, and anthracnose, while under conditions of an artificial infection background, it is less susceptible to fusarium wilt than the standard Kirovsky 159 variety. These characteristics make MARTUM a reliable and productive choice for fodder production.
