The bushes have an upright and semi-spread form, stems reach a height of 110–120 cm and are thin. Foliage is high, which promotes good plant development. Seeds have a yellow-purple color and an ovoid shape; the mass of 1000 seeds ranges from 1.8 to 2.1 g. The period from spring regrowth to flowering lasts 68–75 days, and to seed maturity — 105–125 days.

The variety is characterized by high winter hardiness (85–99%) and resistance to pests and diseases. It is resistant to flower mold, weakly affected by anthracnose, and has medium resistance to root rots. Dry matter yield reaches an average of 10.5 t/ha, a maximum of 12.6 t/ha, and seed yield can be up to 8.3 c/ha. High crude protein content (16–18%) and an optimal fiber level (25.7–28.4%) make this variety valuable for fodder purposes.

Seeds of the KIROVSKIY 159 variety meet the standards of GOST R 52325-2005, with purity of at least 92% and germination of at least 75%.
