Description Melody
The variety was obtained at the Dubovskoy Support Station of the Nizhnevolsk Region of the All-Russian Research Institute of Fruit Growing (VNIISKh) by R.V. Korneev and L.K. Zhukova through planting seeds of the Zhukovskaya variety from open pollination. It was included in the State Register in 2001 for the Nizhnevolsk Region.
Trees are medium-sized and moderately growing. The crown is round, raised, and dense. The bark on the trunk and main branches is flaking, reddish. Shoots are medium-sized, curved, brownish. Buds are few, yellow, small. Leaves are medium-sized, narrow, inversely egg-shaped, dark green, smooth, matte, long-pointed. The leaf blade is concave and curved downward. The leaf tip gradually transitions to a pointed apex, the base is rounded. The leaf margin is serrated and wavy. Petioles are medium-sized, early falling. Stems are medium-sized, green. Stipules are medium-sized, 1-2, yellow, round. Flowers are medium-sized, white, bell-shaped, 3-4 in a bud, sometimes 2. Fruit clusters are predominantly located on flower clusters and fruiting twigs.
Fruits are medium-sized (3.5-4 g), round-heart-shaped, dark red. The ventral suture is fine and barely noticeable. The pedicel is medium-sized in length and thickness. It is loosely attached to the pit. The fruit detaches from the pedicel dry. The flesh is dark red, juicy, sour-sweet, of excellent flavor. The pit separates easily from the flesh, medium-sized, egg-shaped, smooth. The variety is of universal use. Fruits are suitable for fresh consumption, compotes, and jams. Compotes are rated 4.7 points. Fruits contain 14.38% dry matter, 8.49% sugars, 1.35% acids, 17.84 mg/100g ascorbic acid.
Fruits ripen early, in the third decade of June. The variety is partially self-fertile and distinguished by high yield. The average yield over 6 years for 8-13-year-old trees with a spacing of 5 x 2 m was 83.6 centners/ha. Trees begin fruiting in the 3rd-4th year after planting in an orchard. No above-ground parts were damaged by frost, except for fruit buds. No diseases were observed.
Advantages of the variety: yield and technological qualities of fruits, dry detachment from the pedicel, good winter hardiness.
