Melitopolsky Griot — this is a high-yield variety of cherry and sour cherry, developed by Melitopolsk scientists and the Institute of Irrigation Horticulture named after M.F. Sidorenko. The tree is vigorous, reaching a height of 4-5 meters, with a dense, rounded crown and thick, slightly drooping branches. Fast-growing, it begins fruiting on the 3rd-4th year after planting. The culture is highly frost-resistant, capable of enduring temperatures down to -25°C, making it resilient to harsh winter conditions.
The fruits are large, flat-round in shape, weighing 6-8 grams, with dark red skin and juicy, tender flesh. The taste is tangy-sweet, refreshing, with a pleasant acidity. The juice is dark red, and the stone is small, round, and easily detachable. Harvesting occurs at the end of June, allowing for both personal consumption and commercial cultivation.
The variety is self-sterile, so for successful pollination, it is recommended to plant pollinator varieties nearby, such as Ozhidanie, Vstrecha, Podbelskaya, as well as cherry varieties Vinka and Valeriy Chkalov. Melitopolsky Griot is resistant to moniliosis and has moderate resistance to coccomycosis. It requires little care, making it attractive to gardeners and farmers seeking a stable and high-quality yield.
