PURPLE HEYZ

Purple Heyz F1 is a mid-early hybrid of the Nantaise carrot type with a unique two-color skin on the root: half of the skin is violet, and the part adjacent to the core is orange with a thin yellow core. The root has an elongated conical shape measuring 20-22 cm in length and weighing 120-150 g, is characterized by good storage life and resistance to cracking and bolting. The vegetation period is about 100 days, which allows the carrot to be used both fresh and for winter storage. The hybrid has high taste qualities; the pulp is sweet and juicy, with high carotene and lycopene content, which gives the product not only an attractive appearance but also useful medicinal properties. For successful cultivation of Purple Heyz, sowing is recommended at the end of April – beginning of May into moist, slightly acidic, and light mechanical composition soil at a depth of 1.5-2.0 cm with row spacing of 5x20 cm. Two thinning operations are required during the season to a distance of 5 cm between plants, treatment against carrot fly, moderate watering, and hoeing of rows. An important condition is the application of complex mineral fertilizers, while fresh organic fertilizers are not recommended. Root crops are harvested selectively in July-August and the main harvest is done before autumn frosts in dry weather. The hybrid has good resistance to diseases, in particular to black spot caused by Pythium sulcatum and Pythium violae. Juice yield from 1 kg of fresh carrot on a centrifuge reaches 510 ml, making Purple Heyz attractive for use in vegetable mixes and juicing. Thanks to high storage life and plasticity to adverse factors, this hybrid is suitable both for private farms and for mechanized cultivation.
