Field Performance of «Osenny Marathon» Carrots

When selecting carrot varieties for long-term storage, the primary concern for any grower is minimizing waste caused by root cracking. The «Osenny Marathon» variety by Agrofirma Aelita proves to be a consistent, dependable choice for mid-to-late season production. Based on operational experience, this variety excels in stability, ensuring that your field efforts translate directly into marketable yield.

Key Technical Specifications

With a maturity period of 110–120 days, it is well-suited for late-season harvesting when weather conditions are cooler and soil moisture is easier to manage. The Flakkee type roots are consistently cylindrical, reaching 15–20 cm in length. The average weight of 100–120 grams is ideal for processing, bunching, or standard 1kg/2kg retail packaging. The intense orange color remains vibrant, which is a major advantage for presentation.

Handling and Storage Insights

• Cracking Resistance: This is the standout feature of the variety. Even under fluctuating irrigation or unexpected late-season rain, the roots maintain their structural integrity, significantly reducing post-harvest losses.
• Uniformity: Being a Flakkee type, the roots offer excellent uniformity, which simplifies mechanical harvesting and minimizes equipment-related damage.
• Storage Potential: Given proper curing and cool storage conditions, these carrots retain their crisp texture and nutritional value throughout the winter months.

Working with «Osenny Marathon» is straightforward. It doesn't require complex fertilizer programs; maintaining standard nitrogen levels is sufficient to prevent excessive foliage growth. For a commercial grower, this variety offers the reliability needed to maintain a steady supply chain without worrying about excessive culling.
