Description Astra
Astra buckwheat is a determinant variety developed in the USSR in 1985 and officially approved for cultivation in several regions of Ukraine and Russia. This variety is characterized by complete stem growth, which promotes the formation of dense stands and increases yield. Astra has enhanced drought, lodging, and shattering resistance, making it especially valuable for intensive agricultural production. Its high yield and technologically suitable grain make this variety popular among producers.

Buckwheat is an annual herbaceous plant with rapid growth; stem height varies from 0.3 to 1 meter depending on the variety. Its loose inflorescences contain up to 1500 flowers of white and pink hues, and its taproots penetrate soil to a depth of 80–100 cm. Buckwheat fruits are triangular nuts, whose seeds are widely used in food, both whole and crushed, as well as for producing buckwheat flour and medicinal preparations. Buckwheat is also a valuable honey plant: during flowering, bees collect nectar and pollen, which are used to produce dark brown honey with a spicy aroma. Optimal conditions for flowering and seed maturation are temperatures of 18–25 °C and humidity around 60%.

Additionally, buckwheat is widely used as a green manure crop to improve soil structure and enrich it with nutrients. Its root system helps structure the soil, while its above-ground part serves as green manure, enriching the soil with phosphorus, potassium, and organic matter upon decomposition. Due to its rapid vegetative cycle, up to three generations of green manure can be obtained per season, making buckwheat an effective tool for suppressing weeds and restoring depleted soils.
