Alba Agrostis (Agrostis alba) – a perennial rhizomatous grass up to 15 cm high, which forms a dense and uniform turf. The leaves are channeled, 1–2 mm wide, dark green, denser and more even compared to meadow fescue. The plant quickly fills gaps on lawns thanks to numerous offshoot shoots and a well-developed root system that firmly binds the soil.
Alba Agrostis prefers humus-rich, moist loam and sandy loam soils with a neutral reaction. It grows well in both brightly lit areas and in shade, and withstands trampling and frequent mowing not lower than 4 cm, recovering quickly after mechanical damage. In the first year of growth, the plant develops slowly, but is fully formed by the second or third year of sowing.
Service life in the turf with a high level of agrotechnology can reach up to 10 years. Alba Agrostis is characterized by high frost resistance and can withstand spring flooding, but fears drought. For optimal growth, it is recommended to mow at a level of 10–12 cm from the ground level. Thanks to its characteristics, it is widely used for creating durable lawns of various purposes.
