The fodder bean variety Birgit (Vicia faba L.) is intended for cultivation as green mass, seeds, and grain. It is included in the State Register of the Russian Federation and is characterized by medium flowering and full development time. The plant is tall, reaching up to 90 cm, with a small number of stems and nodes. Leaves have a medium length and width with a blue-green hue, flowers are long with a wing adorned with a melanin spot, and the keel has weak or medium anthocyanin pigmentation. Pods are semi-vertical, long, medium width, with no or very weak curvature, medium number of seed pods, and medium wall thickness. Seeds are square, broadly elliptical, beige in color with a black hilum.
The vegetation period of the variety ranges from 61 to 74 days when grown for fodder and 106–118 days for grain harvest. The 1000-seed mass varies from 378 to 395 grams, considered light. Green mass yield reaches 12.0–23.0 tons per hectare, seed yield – 2.5–3.0 tons per hectare, grain yield – 25.1 centners per hectare, and dry matter – 68.6 centners per hectare. The variety exhibits disease resistance and is lightly affected by chocolate and brown spot diseases.
Birgit is a semi-determinate variety, ensuring stable growth and high productivity. Due to its characteristics, it is suitable for fodder purposes and grain production, making it a versatile choice for agricultural production.
