Black Pearl

Black Pearl is one of the most early-maturing varieties of legumes. The period from germination to flowering is about 25 days, and technical maturity is reached in 60‑65 days; full seed maturation occurs 80‑85 days after sowing. The plants are bushy and branching, 70–100 cm tall, with sturdy stems, which ensures resistance to loads and facilitates harvest.

Typically, each plant bears ten to fifteen fleshy pods 7‑10 cm long. Each pod contains three to four seeds; they have a sweet taste, and the pods lack the parchment layer, which facilitates further processing. Green pods and seeds at the milky stage are widely used in home cooking and for canning. Consuming the raw product is not recommended due to possible intolerance.

Mature seeds are black, almost dark-purple, and are valued for their high protein content and used in preparing dishes with a rich flavor. The yield of green pods is approximately 0.5 kg/m², and the seed yield is from 0.2 to 0.3 kg/m², which makes this variety attractive both for home growing and for small commercial plantations.
