Technological Potential of Seiler Barley

Seiler is a complex barley hybrid of Danish breeding from Secobra Recherches S.A.S., officially registered in Ukraine in 2025. Its genetic profile is optimized for intensive cultivation across all key agro-climatic zones: Steppe, Forest-Steppe, and Polissya. The success of this hybrid depends heavily on strict adherence to agronomic protocols.

Sowing and Placement Guidelines

To realize the hybrid's yield potential, timing is critical. In Polissya and Forest-Steppe regions, early spring sowing is optimal as soon as the soil is physically workable. In the Steppe zone, sowing should be shifted to the earliest possible dates to prevent the grain-filling phase from coinciding with peak summer heat.

• Seeding Rate: It is recommended to maintain a density of 3.5–4.5 million viable seeds per hectare, depending on regional moisture availability.
• Sowing Depth: 3–4 cm, depending on soil texture. Ensuring firm seed-to-soil contact is essential for uniform emergence.

Care and Nutrition

Seiler requires intensive mineral nutrition. The primary focus should be on nitrogen application during the tillering and stem elongation phases. Given the hybrid's complex genetic structure, maintaining a strict phytosanitary regime is vital: preventive fungicide application at the flag leaf stage is necessary to prevent leaf blotch diseases, which is critical for grain filling.

The hybrid shows high responsiveness to micronutrient application, particularly copper and manganese, in soils with neutral or slightly alkaline pH. Irrigation (in irrigated zones) is most effective from the start of stem elongation through flowering, as this is when the number of grains per ear is determined.
