Agrotechnics and Potential of the "Volodkovodyvytskyi" Barley

Registered in 2025 by the Nosivka Breeding and Research Station, the spring barley "Volodkovodyvytskyi" is a complex hybrid adapted for all agro-climatic zones of Ukraine: from the arid Steppe to the humid Polissya. This two-row variety, intended for grain production, demonstrates high plasticity across various soil types.

Cultivation Recommendations

• Sowing Dates: As a spring crop, it is critical to sow "Volodkovodyvytskyi" as early as possible, as soon as the soil is physically ready for cultivation. This allows the plants to develop a robust root system before peak summer temperatures arrive.
• Planting Density: Due to its semi-prostrate growth habit and medium stem length, the variety efficiently utilizes space. It responds well to standard seeding rates for two-row barley, ensuring uniform and productive tillering.
• Care by Growth Stages: During the tillering phase, weed control is essential. In the stem elongation and heading phases (which occur at an average time), it is crucial to provide balanced nitrogen fertilization to support the pyramidal, medium-density ear without risking lodging.
• Water Management: Despite its adaptability to the Steppe zone, the variety reaches its full potential with sufficient moisture during critical phases (stem elongation to heading). The strong waxy bloom on the flag leaf acts as a natural defense against moisture loss and heat stress.

Harvesting is facilitated by the horizontal position of the ear and the long awns, which promote uniform ripening of the elliptical grains. The combination of its morphological traits and the expertise of the Myronivka Institute of Wheat makes this variety a reliable choice for commercial grain production in 2025.
