Description Karpovsky
Late-winter variety selected by the All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Genetics and Selection of Fruit Crops named after I. V. Michurin and the All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Fruit Crop Selection. Breeder: G. K. Karpov. Obtained from crossing the variety Babushkino with McIntosh. Underwent State Variety Testing in the Central and Central Chernozem regions.

Trees are tall, with oval crowns in youth and spherical crowns in fruiting. The crown features a strong central leader, from which many thinner semi-skeletal branches branch off. Fruiting is mixed.

Shoots are fully colored red-brown, slightly hairy. Leaves are light green, elongated, slightly wrinkled, curved downward, with raised margins and toothed edges. Petioles are long, colored, without stipules.

Fruits (see illustration) are large and medium-sized, flattened-round in shape, with weakly noticeable ribbing, symmetrical. Surface is smooth. Main color is greenish-yellow, with a bright dense pink blush covering most of the fruit. On the sun-exposed side, the blush is solid and intense; on the shaded side, it appears as stripes and speckles.
Fruits are covered with a strong waxy coating, appearing bluish-gray when picked. Pedicel is short, thick, sometimes with swelling. Calyx is slightly rust-colored. Calyx tube is small, semi-open. Receptacle is small, wide, with smooth walls. Subcalyx tube is small, funnel-shaped. Large seed cavity is onion-shaped with closed chambers. No central cavity.
Flesh is greenish, juicy, slightly acidic-sweet, with a delicate aroma. Chemical composition of fruits: total sugars — 13.0%, titratable acidity — 0.74%, dry matter — 16.2%, ascorbic acid — 12.6 mg/100g, P-active catechins — 278 mg/100g.
Ripening is late-winter. Variety has long fruit storage life (until April-May) under fruit storage conditions. Fruit quality is high.
Enters fruiting stage at 6-8 years (after budding). In early years, fruit yield is low but very large and heavy; after 2-3 years, yield sharply increases. Highly productive. Winter hardiness is average.

Advantages of the variety: high yield, fruits of high commercial quality and long storage life in fresh condition.

Disadvantages of the variety: susceptible to scab.
