Late winter variety originating from Japan. Obtained by pollinating the Golden Delicious variety with the Indo variety. Approved for the North Caucasus region.
Medium-sized trees with a broad, spreading crown that becomes more weeping with age. Branches are very long, weakly curved, slightly bent, emerging from the trunk at a sharp angle, and in upper tiers — at a right angle. Bark is dark gray. Fruit type is mixed, fruits form in clusters of 2-3, on last year's shoots.
Shoots are thick, straight, curved, gray-brown, slightly hairy, covered with numerous large rounded stipules. In the nursery, stems are dark brown with a burgundy tint. Leaves are elongated or broad, egg-shaped, with rounded bases and elongated, slightly twisted tips, slightly curved and strongly folded, weakly wrinkled, dark green, glossy. Leaf margins are strongly wavy, single- and double-toothed. Hairs are sparse and light. Leaf blade forms an acute angle with the stem. Petioles are medium-sized, with sickle-shaped stipules. In the nursery, petioles are thick with large oval stipules.
Flowers are medium-sized, saucer-shaped, pinkish, with a medium hairy column of stigmas, with stigmas at the level of anthers.
Fruits (see illustration) are medium to above-medium size, slightly flattened, elongated-conical, with a broadened base and five distinct bumps and ribs around a broad plate. Ribbing is characteristic of large fruits across the entire surface. Skin is thick, dense, weakly glossy, covered with numerous white subcutaneous spots, rarely with very fine brown spots, weak waxy coating. Main color is light green; fruits exposed to sunlight — with a blurred orange blush. At ripening, they become bright yellow, aromatic. Calyx is medium-sized, occasionally with gray-brown rust. Peduncle is long and curved, extending beyond the calyx. Calyx is slightly open; subcalyx tube is deep, conical.
Flesh is greenish, tasteless or sweet at harvest, very juicy, dense. At ripening, it turns creamy, develops a characteristic harmonious pear aroma. Small fruits have a coarse texture and grassy flavor. Chemical composition of fruits: dry matter — 14%, sugars — 10.6%, titratable acids — 0.4%, ascorbic acid — 5.6 mg/100g, P-active substances — 180 mg/100g fresh weight.
Harvesting period — late September to early October.
Fruits store well until June. Fruit quality depends heavily on orchard management (up to 90%).
Fruits are consumed fresh and are suitable for processing (juices, jams, chips).
Self-sterile variety, requires pollinators; best are Aidored, Kuban Spur, Golden Delicious, Renet Simirenko.
Early-bearing variety, with annual fruiting and good yield: on weak-growing rootstocks, yields 500-600 centners/ha in some years, on SK-1 — 300 centners/ha.
Trees are winter-hardy, heat- and drought-resistant, resistant to brown spot, highly susceptible to scab and powdery mildew.
Advantages of the variety: early bearing, annual and high yield, high fruit storability.
Disadvantages of the variety: fruit splitting under heavy fruit load, susceptibility of fruits and leaves to scab.
Used in breeding as a carrier of traits: yield, dense fruit flesh, and long storage life.
