Early winter, disease-resistant variety (814 — self-fertile) from the All-Russian Research Institute of Fruit Crop Selection. Obtained by sowing seeds from fruits harvested in 1978, year of sowing — 1979. First fruiting of seedling noted in 1991. Breeders: E. N. Sedov, Z. M. Serova, V. V. Zhданov, E. A. Dolmatov.
The variety Oryol'skoye Pole was accepted for State Testing in the Central, Central-Chernozem, and Lower Volga regions of Russia in 1998. Registered in the State Register since 2002.
Medium-sized trees with round, moderately dense crowns. Main branches diverge from the trunk at nearly straight angles. Branches are straight, compactly arranged, with tips pointing upward. Bark on the trunk and main branches is smooth and gray. Predominant type of fruiting structures — simple and complex rings.
Shoots are arcuate, polygonal in cross-section, brown, and hairy. Buds are pressed, small, conical, and hairy. Leaves are egg-shaped, short-pointed with a helically twisted apex, dark green with a bluish tint, wrinkled, matte, with coarse venation. Leaf blade is slightly concave, sparsely hairy. Leaf margin is finely toothed, wavy, and rolled. Petiole of medium length, hairy.
Inflorescences are umbrella-shaped, consisting of 4-6 flowers; buds are pink; flowers are flat, large; petals are pale pink, round, slightly closed; stigmas are below the anthers; pedicel is of medium length; fused style of the pistil is hairless.
Fruits of medium size (140 g), elongated-conical, broad-ribbed, truncated. Fruit skin is smooth, oily, shiny. Main color is greenish-yellow when harvested and golden-yellow at consumption time. Cover color on most of the fruit is red stripes and spots. Subepidermal dots are green, clearly visible, numerous. Fruit stalk is medium or short, curved, oblique. Calyx tube is of medium depth, acute-conical, narrow. Calyx does not fall off, closed. Receptacle is medium-sized, narrow, ridged. Seed cavity is bulbous. Seed chambers are closed. Subcalyx tube is wide, conical. Seeds are conical, brown.
Flesh is white, cream-colored, firm, juicy, coarse-grained, very juicy. Taste is sour-sweet. Appearance rating of fruits is 4.4 points, taste rating — 4.3 points. Chemical composition of fruits: total sugar content — 8.2%, titratable acidity — 0.78%, ascorbic acid — 7.9 mg/100g, P-active substances — 342 mg/100g.
Harvesting ripeness occurs in late September (15–20), fruits can be stored in refrigerators until mid-January.
The variety is early-bearing and high-yielding. Young 8–11-year-old grafted trees, on average over 4 years (1994–1997), yielded 133 centners/ha. Control variety Antonovka ordinary yielded 65 centners/ha during the same period.
Trees are winter-hardy. Over recent years, damage from frost has not exceeded 1.2 points, compared to the control variety Antonovka ordinary (1.0 point).
Advantages of the variety: resistance to scab (gene Vf), high-quality, attractive fruits.
