VORONEZH

Voronezh Amaranth is a fast-maturing and high-yielding grain amaranth variety, developed by domestic breeders and adapted to the climatic conditions of Russia. The plant reaches a height of 90 to 120 cm, has a corrugated green stem with betacyanin coloring at the base, and large inflorescences measuring 28-35 cm in length. The seeds are spherical, predominantly white or cream-colored, with a starchy endosperm, making this variety particularly in demand for the production of amaranth groats. The maturation period is about 95-106 days, allowing for a quick harvest. The variety is characterized by high yield: grains are harvested in quantities up to 24.5 c/ha, green mass is about 259-265 c/ha, while dry matter output reaches 41.4 c/ha. The crude protein content in dry matter is 16.4%, and fiber content is 19.2%, making the plant a valuable fodder crop. Voronezh amaranth is drought and frost-resistant, unpretentious in care, rarely affected by pests and diseases, although fungal infections may occur during hot summers. The plant is well-suited for mechanized harvesting due to its low growth and smaller amount of green mass. Sowing seeds is recommended at a soil temperature of from 10°C, with a planting depth of about 1.5 cm and a row spacing of 45 cm. Fertilizers are applied three times during the growing season, and irrigation is necessary only in the first few months of growth. Thanks to its adaptability and high productivity, Voronezh amaranth is widely used both for grain and groat production and as a fodder and decorative crop.
