Ecckendorf yellow fodder beet is a mid-season fodder beet variety widely used in animal husbandry for preparing juicy and nutritious feed for winter. The vegetation period is from 140 to 155 days, which allows harvesting in September-October. The root crops have a cylindrical shape with a constriction in the middle, protruding above the soil level by about two-thirds, and differ in light yellow skin color and white juicy flesh. The mass of one root crop varies from 1 to 1.6 kg, and the yield reaches 100-150 tons per hectare, making this variety very productive and in demand.
The Ecckendorf yellow variety is characterized by high cold hardiness and drought resistance; seedlings can withstand short-term frosts down to -5 degrees. Seeds are planted in open ground in early spring, usually at the end of April - beginning of May, with a consumption rate of 150-200 grams per hundred square meters. Beets grow well on all soil types and differ in stable yield. Due to high storability, the root crops are stored excellently until spring, which ensures prolonged use of feed.
Special attention deserves the foliage of this variety, which in terms of food value exceeds the root crops and contains 17 feed units, while the roots contain 14 feed units. This makes yellow Ecckendorf beet a universal feed for various types of agricultural animals, including rabbits, chickens, sheep, and cows. The leaves are large and light-colored, and the root crops are easily pulled out of the soil due to their shallow placement. All these qualities make this variety an excellent choice for home and commercial farms.
