The GAMELET apricot variety was bred at the Nikitsky Botanical Garden as a result of crossing the Shalard 5 and Forum varieties. The tree is vigorous with a spreading crown of medium density and elevated scaffold branches. It begins fruiting in the 4-5th year after planting. The bark on the trunk and main branches is shedding, gray-brown; shoots are of medium thickness, straight, reddish-brown, and hairless. Leaves are of medium size, round, green, smooth and matte, with doubly serrated margins.
GAMELET variety fruits are large, wide-oval or ovoid, weighing about 50-70 g, light orange in color with a beautiful pink blush covering up to 50% or more of the surface. The fruit apex is round, the calyx is deep, and the ventral suture is distinct. The flesh is light orange, juicy, with a fused-fibrous texture, having a pleasant slightly acidic-sweet taste, which received a tasting score of 4.5 out of 5. The fruits contain about 14.6% dry matter, 13.3% sugars, 1.72% acids, and 7.3 mg of vitamin C per 100 g. The pit is large, oval, separates well from the flesh, is light brown in color, slightly rough, and the seed is sweet.
The variety belongs to medium-early maturation; fruits ripen in the second half of July. Yield is high — up to 115-120 c/ha, winter hardiness and drought tolerance are high, disease resistance is above average. Fruits exhibit good attachment strength and transportability, making them versatile for various uses.
