KOSTINSKY

The Kostinsky apricot is a result of selection at the Nikitsky Botanical Garden, obtained by crossing the Enduring and Yerevan varieties. This variety is characterized by a medium ripening period; usually, fruits ripen in the second or third decade of July. The tree is medium-sized with a round-oval or compact raised crown of medium density and bears fruit on spurs. The Kostinsky apricot is characterized by high drought tolerance and good winter hardiness, making it suitable for cultivation in various climatic conditions, including the North Caucasus region. The apricot fruits are large, weighing from 50 to 65 grams, sometimes reaching 70-100 grams. They have an oval or round-oval shape with a flat base and a slightly depressed apex. The fruit skin is cream-yellow with a delicate raspberry or red blush on the sunny side, velvety and weakly pubescent. The flesh is yellow-cream, juicy, very tender and melting, with high sugar content and a pleasant weak acidity, ensuring excellent taste qualities. The pit is of medium size and separates well from the flesh, while the seed is sweet. The Kostinsky variety is characterized by good storability and transportability of fruits, which allows maintaining their quality during transport and storage. Resistance to fungal diseases and other diseases is assessed as satisfactory or high, which contributes to stable yields. In favorable years, yields can reach 8-10 tons per hectare. The apricot is self-fertile, flowers at a medium time, which facilitates care and increases the reliability of fruiting.
