Originating from the mountain regions of Southwest China, this species is adapted to cooler, mountainous climates. It thrives in temperate conditions where there is sufficient humidity and protection from harsh weather elements during the dormant season.

The plant requires well-drained soil with a slightly acidic to neutral pH level. It does not tolerate waterlogging, so providing a loose, loamy, or sandy soil structure is essential for maintaining root health and promoting vigorous growth.

Optimal site selection includes partial shade to full sun locations, depending on the intensity of the heat in the specific region. Regular moisture management is crucial, especially during the first years after planting to establish a strong root system.

Cultural maintenance involves pruning to shape the shrub and remove dead wood, which should be done after the flowering period. Incorporating organic mulch around the base of the plant helps retain soil moisture and suppresses weed growth effectively.

The primary pathological threat to this shrub is powdery mildew, which often occurs during periods of high humidity and poor air circulation. Improving airflow around the plant is the most effective cultural method to mitigate this risk.
