Sirius is a winter apple variety, a Czech selection, obtained by crossing the varieties Topaz and Golden Delicious. The tree is strongly growing with a round, wide crown, and begins fruiting 2-3 years after planting, depending on the rootstock MM 106. The variety is characterized by high yield, resistance to major diseases, particularly scab, and the absence of alternation tendency. Due to these qualities, Sirius is suitable for integrated and organic cultivation without the need for chemical treatments.
The fruits are large, weighing from 180 to 250 grams, sometimes up to 300 grams, round in shape, with green-yellow coloration and a pink blush on the sun-exposed side. The flesh is yellow, dense, finely-grained, very juicy and crisp, with a distinct apple aroma and high sugar content (Brix 14.7). The apples have excellent flavor qualities and are classified as dessert varieties.
The harvest period falls in the first decade of October, and the fruits can be stored until April under normal conditions, allowing for prolonged enjoyment of fresh apples. The variety is not prone to overloading and exhibits stable fruiting. Due to its characteristics, the apple tree Sirius is an excellent choice for gardeners seeking a high-quality, resilient winter variety with long storage life.
