Wheat Zarnitsa

Stability and reliability in winter wheat production

The soft winter wheat variety «Zarnitsa», developed by the Agricultural Research Center «Donskoy», is engineered for stable yields under intensive farming conditions. The key feature of this variety is its balance between a compact habitus and high adaptability. With a height ranging from 60 to 100 cm, it forms a sturdy stem with excellent lodging resistance, which is vital for operations utilizing high levels of nitrogen fertilization.

Disease resistance and yield potential

Unlike many intensive varieties, «Zarnitsa» possesses pronounced genetic resistance to a wide range of pathogens. The variety effectively withstands common bunt (stinking smut), rust, fusarium, and powdery mildew. This allows growers to optimize their fungicide application schedule, effectively reducing chemical pressure on the crop.

Grain characteristics

As a beardless (awnless) variety, «Zarnitsa» produces plump, large grains. The thousand-kernel weight (TKW) ranges from 35 to 50 grams, ensuring high flour extraction rates and excellent baking quality. Its plasticity allows the variety to perform consistently across both rich chernozem soils and less favorable ground.

Who should choose this variety?

• Farms aiming to minimize the risk of lodging.
• Agro-enterprises operating in areas with high infectious pressure (thanks to its robust disease resistance profile).
• Producers focused on high-quality milling wheat with excellent test weight.

While «Zarnitsa» is relatively undemanding, it achieves its full genetic potential when sown during optimal windows. It remains an excellent choice for farmers who value predictable results and reliable protection against environmental stress.
