Winter wheat bred by the Serbian Institut Za Ratarstvo I Povrtarstvo is an intensive variety focused on stable yields in temperate climates. With a stem height of 80–90 cm, the variety shows excellent lodging resistance, which is critical for intensive farming practices using high nitrogen fertilizer application rates.

Biological Features and Vegetation

The vegetation period spans 250–270 days, allowing the plant to effectively utilize moisture accumulated during the winter-spring period. The short stem combined with a rigid straw structure reduces harvesting loss risks even in adverse weather conditions.

Phytosanitary Profile

Breeders have focused on crop immunity:

• Leaf Rust: A high level of genetic protection prevents pathogen development at early and mid-stages.
• Fusarium Head Blight: Reduces the risk of mycotoxin contamination in grain, ensuring high commercial quality.
• Pests: Higher tolerance to Frit fly damage is observed, reducing the need for intensive insecticide treatments.

The actual yield potential of the variety ranges from 5 to 7 tons per hectare depending on the level of agronomic management. NS Obala performs best on fertile soils, where the crop maximizes its tillering potential and full ear development.
