Winter wheat variety Ovidiy is an intensive soft wheat variety intended for cultivation under both rainfed and irrigated conditions. This variety is versatile and suitable for various agro-climatic zones, including the Polissia, Forest-Steppe, and Steppe regions of Ukraine. Ovidiy has a medium-early maturation period with a vegetation duration of 280-285 days and an average plant height of 100-105 cm, which ensures ease of agronomic management and resistance to lodging.
The variety exhibits high yield potential — 95-100 c/ha (9.5-10.0 t/ha), making it attractive for producers. It is characterized by high cold resistance (above average, 8 points), as well as high drought and heat stress tolerance. Ovidiy is resistant to diseases such as powdery mildew, rust, septoria, and fusarium, and is not susceptible to fusarium and hard scab, significantly reducing the risk of yield loss.
The quality of Ovidiy wheat grain is strong and valuable. Protein content in the grain ranges from 13.2-13.7%, and gluten content is 30.5-31.5%, corresponding to I and II quality groups. Dough strength reaches 290-305 arbitrary units, and the loaf volume from 100 g of flour is 1350-1390 cm³, confirming its high baking value. The grain is large, red in color, with a thousand-grain weight of 39-42 g, which enhances its market appeal and processing characteristics.
