NOVOSIBIRSKAYA 31 is a mid-early soft spring wheat variety developed by individual selection from the hybridization of several varieties. The plant is of medium height with a semi-erect bush and weak straw. The ear is pyramidal, loose, of medium density, white in color, with short awned appendages at the tip. The grains are colored; the mass of 1000 seeds ranges from 32 to 41 grams. The vegetative period lasts from 72 to 95 days; in the Novosibirsk region, it ripens slightly earlier or later than some other varieties of the region. The variety is characterized by good yield—with an average of 32.1 centners per hectare, which is 2.5 centners higher than the average standard. In recommended cultivation zones, yield can reach 34.2 centners per hectare, with the maximum recorded figure being 58.3 centners per hectare. NOVOSIBIRSKAYA 31 is resistant to lodging and root sprouting, possesses medium drought resistance, which makes it a reliable choice for cultivation in the West Siberian and East Siberian regions. The wheat is characterized by good baking qualities due to the high protein content in the grain—up to 20%—and gluten content—up to 40%. The variety is moderately susceptible to brown rust and septoria, but may be affected by powdery bunt. Due to these properties, NOVOSIBIRSKAYA 31 is widely used in the milling and baking industry, serving as a valuable and in-demand crop for the production of quality flour and bakery products.
