BURIATSKAYA 551 — a variety of soft spring wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) intended for cultivation in the East Siberian region, specifically in the Republic of Buryatia. This medium-maturing variety is characterized by a vegetative period of 85 to 98 days, allowing it to ripen 1-2 days earlier or several days later than some standard varieties, such as Selenge and Lutescence 937. The plant is semi-erect, medium-height, with a cylindrical or pyramidal loose white ear and long awned appendages. The grain is elongated, colored, with a medium-length awn, and the mass of 1000 grains varies from 32 to 44 grams.
The variety is distinguished by good resistance to lodging and drought, making it a reliable choice for cultivation in dry steppe and steppe zones of Buryatia. Moderate susceptibility to diseases such as brown rust and septoria allows maintaining stable yields. Average yield in the region is about 21-24.5 centners per hectare, with maximum indicators up to 52 centners per hectare.
The baking qualities of the BURIATSKAYA 551 variety are at the level of a good filler, with protein content not less than 15% and crude gluten not less than 28%. This makes the grain suitable for producing quality flour and bakery products. The variety was created through double individual selection from a complex hybrid combination, which ensures its adaptability and high technological characteristics.
