Wheat Callisto

Genetic Potential of Winter Wheat "Callisto"

The breeding efforts led by originator Oleksandr Serhiiovych Kashtanov and implemented by the production facilities of Pryvatne aktsionerne tovarystvo "Selena" have resulted in a variety focused on stable yield formation within Ukraine's climatic conditions. "Callisto" is a classic winter wheat variety, with a technological emphasis placed on resistance to seasonal environmental stressors.

Agrotechnical Features and Productivity

• Development Type: A typical winter form requiring strict adherence to sowing dates for optimal vernalization. This is critical for the development of a strong tillering node before freezing temperatures occur.
• Morphological Stability: The variety demonstrates adaptability to regional soil and climatic conditions characteristic of the production scope of Pryvatne aktsionerne tovarystvo "Selena".
• Photosynthetic Apparatus: The stem structure and flag leaf morphology facilitate efficient solar energy uptake during the grain filling period, which directly impacts the thousand-kernel weight and final yield quality.

The practical value of this variety lies in its growth predictability. Under intensive farming practices, "Callisto" responds well to timely nitrogen fertilization and high-quality pathogen protection, helping to mitigate lodging risks. As the producer, Pryvatne aktsionerne tovarystvo "Selena" ensures rigorous variety purity control, preventing impurities which is essential for maintaining strict agrotechnological standards. When the sowing protocol is followed, the variety forms an even crop stand, facilitating harvesting without significant yield losses.
