Donstar is a variety of soft winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.), characterized by a medium-early maturity period and high resistance to unfavorable conditions. It possesses high winter hardiness and can withstand spring frosts during the stem elongation phase, making it a reliable choice for cultivation in the Central and Southern zones of the Rostov region. The plant is of medium height, semi-erect, resistant to lodging and grain shattering during prolonged standing on the root, which contributes to crop preservation.
The Donstar variety is distinguished by good drought resistance comparable to the standard Yermak, and resistance to diseases such as brown rust and powdery mildew. The mass of 1000 grains varies from 35 to 44 grams, while protein content in the grain is 13.6-14.7%, with gluten content of 25.4-28.4%, providing satisfactory and good baking qualities. Average yield of the variety in the region reaches 47.0 c/ha, and on average over the 2008-2010 period — 2.98 t/ha.
Donstar is widely used in agriculture for producing high-quality grain, which can be used in various branches of the food industry. Due to its characteristics, this wheat variety is a reliable and efficient choice for farmers seeking to obtain a stable and high yield under a changing climate.
