Watermelon Nitsa is an early-maturing variety, ripening 78-90 days after full germination, designed for growing in open ground in central Russia and the south. The plant is vine-like with a main vine length of 1.5 to 2 meters. Fruits are broad-oval, smooth, light green in color with dark green festooned stripes, weighing from 4.2 to 6.1 kg. The fruit rind is sturdy, 1.0-1.5 cm thick, ensuring high storage durability and good transportability of watermelons.
The watermelon flesh is red, juicy, granular, and sugary, making its taste rich and sweet. The variety has medium resistance to diseases such as fusarium and anthracnose, increasing its reliability during cultivation. For successful growth and abundant fruiting, plants require timely watering, regular weeding, and fertilization with mineral fertilizers.
Sowing seedlings is recommended in late April or early May, and transplanting into open ground in late May or early June, when seedlings reach 30-35 days of age and are in the 3-4 true leaf stage. Plants are tied to a trellis up to 50 cm high, side shoots are removed, and the tip is pinched above 1-3 leaves or grown horizontally. Suitable for growing are well-warmed, sunlit areas with sandy or loamy soils, while excessive moisture is undesirable. It is recommended to change the planting location no more than once every 4 years.
