Melitopolsky 60

Melitopolsky 60 watermelon is a mid-late variety with a vegetation period of 80 to 100 days, depending on growing conditions. The plant is medium-vined or long-vined with a main vine length of 3 to 4 meters. The fruits have an oval shape with a characteristic pattern of wide, spiny, dark green stripes on a light green rind, 1-1.8 cm thick. The average weight of the watermelons is 4-6 kilograms, although individual specimens may reach 10-14, and sometimes up to 18 kilograms.

The flesh is red or pink, granular, very juicy and sweet, with a high sugar content (about 7.5%) and vitamin C (8.4 mg%). The taste qualities are highly rated, making this variety popular for consumption in autumn and for winter storage. Yield under proper agronomic practices reaches 40-50 tons per hectare, equivalent to 400-500 kg per hundred square meters.

The variety is characterized by good storability — fruits can be stored for up to three months — and resistance to transportation. Additionally, Melitopolsky 60 has moderate resistance to Fusarium wilt and anthracnose, which simplifies cultivation and reduces yield losses. For sowing, soil should be warmed to 12-13 degrees Celsius at a depth of 10-12 cm, seeds planted at a depth of 4-7 cm, and planting schemes should be followed to ensure optimal spacing between plants.
